As education, technology and society continue to evolve, it’s imperative that we, education changemakers, come together to innovate so that students are well-prepared for the future.

That’s why leaders, educators, futurists, designers, students, lifelong learners and visionaries are gathering in San Antonio, Texas, for the 100 Year EdTech Project’s 2025 Design Summit from March 19-21.

Space is limited at the venue, so the Summit is by invitation only. All curious education changemakers are invited to apply. 

Early registration runs through October 30, 2024 and is $275. Regular registration begins October 31 and is $375. Registration fees help subsidize the cost of student participation. Limited financial assistance is available.

Confluence of Commands: Participatory Art Activity

Attendees of the 100 Year Ed Tech Project reception on Weds, Mar 19 will have the opportunity to contribute to a participatory art project called “Confluence of Commands” (2025). Artists will use prompts created by AI in the style of famous painters Sol LeWitt and Mildred Thompson to paint a mural as a group. Afterwards, the mural will be separated into individual works that each participant can take home with them to commemorate the collaborative spirit of the event.

Design Session I: The First 10 Years
Facilitators organize their design groups around their chosen Future Scenario, get to know each other, ensure roles are assigned, and introduce initial exploratory questions and the 10-25-50-year framing, getting started on planning the first 10 years.

San Antonio Has HEART: Individual Scavenger Hunt
UTSA’s Downtown Campus features Milagros, an art installation by alumna Diana Rodriguez Gil MFA ’86, with 31 bronze hearts hidden in plain sight on building facades. During this Wellness Break, attendees can explore campus and search for as many hearts as possible. Who will find the most?

Reset & Refresh: Guided Relaxation & Light Stretching
Step away from the hustle and reset with a guided relaxation and light stretching session in the outdoor seating area near the center of campus. Led by Lila, a trained dance instructor, this session will help attendees recharge before the next session.

Design Session II: 10-25 years
Future Scenario groups are locked in; They finish up the first set of questions (10 year lens) before moving on to determine the needs for 25 years.

What You Can Expect

During this three-day, highly immersive summit, we will tackle the most pressing problems and explore the greatest educational opportunities – looking 50 years back and 50 years forward. Together we will develop solutions to enhance learning experiences, meet diverse learner needs, foster greater access and equity, and much more. 

In fact, participants will get the final say on the Future Scenario topics selected! Last year, we addressed potential solutions for ethical AI, climate impact, and teaching in a post-truth area. What’s in the cards this year?

Hosted by The University of Texas at San Antonio, a U.S. institution that’s well known for its ecosystem of student success and innovative learning strategies, the 2025 Summit will be a space to play, discover and re-imagine the future of education to prepare students not just for learning today, but for tomorrow and beyond.

What does education look like in 2075? How might it drive opportunity and innovation? At the 2025 Design Summit, participants will tackle these questions through a series of dynamic working sessions. Guided by a selection of thematic Future Scenarios, they’ll explore how education and technology could evolve over the next 5–10 years, 25 years and 50 years. The chosen 12 scenarios will serve as jumping-off points for designing approaches and solutions for the world of education. Read all 33 Future Scenarios considered here.

The Summit outcome?

Education leaders will increase their capacities to co-create educational futures, so they can support learners for the next 50 years.

Together, we will infuse our insights into a concrete guide.
